Eco champion Steve Parlby is celebrating after being named as part of the ESS Environmental 100.
The Irwell Valley Homes investment planning and sustainability manager received the prestigious award at the Environmental Services and Solutions Expo, held at the NEC in Birmingham.
The event honours those who are ‘trailblazers and visionaries driving forward environmental sustainability in the UK’ and judges chose a top 100 out of the thousands nominated from across the country.
Steve was nominated in the Pioneering People category by a colleague for his continuous work that combines sustainability, using technology for energy efficiency and saving customers money.
Among the schemes he has been involved with is using free wind power that would otherwise be wasted to heat up hot water tanks in homes.
Steve, who will have worked for Irwell Valley Homes for 30 years on January 1, said: “I was amazed to be named in the top 100, you don’t see yourself in that way.
“We are all on this fragile earth and we want it to continue for millions of years not just the next 20.
“The green agenda is here, we need to reduce and rethink. Enjoy the planet but look after it, then it will look after us.”
Following the award, Steve has received much congratulations from staff at Irwell Valley Homes with colleagues who work directly with him particularly proud of his achievement.
