Our vision for Haughton Green
We have big plans for the Haughton Green Estate.
This vibrant and green estate in Tameside is home to 1,900 of our customers and we have plans to invest more than £68m over the next six years to ensure the homes there are great places to live now and in the future. We've already begun work on our existing homes, fitting new roofs, kitchens, insultation and solar panels.
We're also building new, high-quality, and energy efficient homes - designed for residents now and for many years to come. We've already built more than 120 new homes in Tameside over the last seven years.
Following a comprehensive review into the condition of the three tower blocks on the estate, we have made the difficult decision to demolish them and build new, purpose built apartment blocks for the residents currently living there.
We're involving residents in the process. If you’d like to be involved, we’d love to hear from you - please get in touch about joining our Resident Steering Group. You can read more about this below.
If you're affected by the demolition, click here to access the full information pack and how we'll support you throughout.
Our plans for Castleton Court, Southey Court and Fitzgerald Court.
In May 2026 we began consulting with residents living at these building about how we move forward with demolishing the three high-rise buildings and re-building new, affordable and energy efficient homes in their place.
This was a difficult decision to make, but one we believe provides the best long-term solution for the customers living there. Every customer currently living in the towers will be found a new home that reasonably meets their needs and be guaranteed the option to move back into one of the modern, energy efficient, affordable homes we're replacing them with once they are built.
We understand the significant impact this will have on residents.
That’s why we are consulting with them about what it means for them, what concerns they may have and what support they need from us. Their views will help shape how we deliver this option moving forward.
To make sure customers continue to have a strong voice and influence throughout this process, we're also setting up a resident steering group so customers can help guide, shape, and support how this option is developed and implemented.

We're here to help
Supporting customers with their move
We understand that moving home is a major change and may feel unsettling. We will support residents at every step - including finding a home and providing financial and practical support to help with the move.
How this will work
We will speak with customers about their circumstances and match them with a home.
Homes will be offered based on people’s needs as they become available.
When a suitable home becomes available, we will arrange a viewing. If the customer chooses to accept it, they can begin planning the move while we prepare the property.
As well as us searching for a home on their behalf, customers can apply directly through the Choice Based Lettings (CBL) system used by local councils across Greater Manchester. You can find out more about CBL here.

We want customers to be involved in this process
Join the Haughton Green Regeneration Steering Group
We know these plans will have a big impact on our customers, that’s why we’re setting up a Resident Steering Group, so they have a voice and can help shape what happens next as the plans move forward.
The steering group will be made up of residents from the three buildings who want to be involved and help shape how the rehousing, demolition and rebuild plans are carried out.
The group will:
- Share feedback on the rehousing process from a resident perspective.
- Help shape fair and supportive rehousing arrangements.
- Raise issues, concerns and ideas on behalf of residents.
- Help influence how the existing buildings are managed while people are moving.
- Tell us what is working (and what is not) about the updates and information we share.
- Work with us on the design and plans for the new homes.
- Help make sure residents’ voices are at the centre of everything we do.
To join or find out more please email haughtongreen@irwellvalley.co.uk or speak to a member of the regeneration team.
