Starts at Home Day - Shauna's story

Shauna arrived at Greenbank’s emergency accommodation after relations with her mum broke down and her auntie struggled to find space to put her up.

“If it wasn’t for my auntie and Greenbank offering me a place, I could have been street homeless,” she says.

Instead – thanks to the stability and support she’s received from Greenbank - she’s looking ahead to an exciting new chapter, after passing her level 2 in Beauty Therapy at college.

Her keyworker helped her to apply for a free bus pass to ensure she didn’t miss classes, and also worked with her on an application to our Irwell Valley Foundation, who provided a grant to buy a laptop and other equipment for her course.

“I could not stop smiling when they told me my application had been accepted,” Shauna says.  “I could practice so much and look on the internet for tips to practice more. I really do not think I could have passed my level 2 without the support of Irwell Valley.”

We’re joining with other supported housing providers across the country this #StartsAtHome Day to highlight how important a good home and support network is in helping people achieve what they want to in life.

“Greenbank is a great place to live and a great source of support. My keyworker is always motivating me to be the best I can be.”
