We've teamed up with Tameside Council to launch a new community initiative offering local residents a place to meet others and access advice and support.

The Fresh Start Club provides a caring, supportive and welcoming place for people to drop-in and have a free brew and snack and a chat.

It takes place each Wednesday at our Oasis community resource centre in Tatton Road, Haughton Green.

We're working with Tameside Council's Community Safety Team on the project. Elements include a worry box where people can post their concerns or questions; a wall to post ideas and suggestions, access to and support with computers and getting online and a chance to enjoy a drink and a chat with others from the community.

Ceris Esplen, Director of Strategy and Partnerships at Irwell Valley Homes, said: “We’re delighted to host the first Fresh Start club at The Oasis, our community resource centre in the heart of Haughton Green.

“From here we offer a wide range of outreach services that provide local people with help, support and opportunities in their community, and we’re pleased to be connecting with more residents through this latest initiative.

“We know that social isolation and loneliness is an issue in the area, particularly following the pandemic, and understand the impact this can have on people’s mental health and wellbeing. As a social landlord, we’re committed to supporting our customers to live well in their homes and communities – we’re sure the Fresh Start club will offer another meaningful way we can work with our partners and residents to re-connect local people and really make a difference.”

  • Drop into the Fresh Start club every Wednesday between 10am and 11.30am.
