Heart of the Community Award Winners

This Valentine’s Day we’re delighted to be sharing the love with our customers and communities as we announce the winners in our first ever Heart of the Community awards! We received nominations from across Greater Manchester highlighting the amazing work that goes on in our neighbourhoods across the region. From good neighbours looking out for those living next door, to community groups and eco-champions doing wonderful things to make their area a great place to live, the entries we received were truly awe-inspiring.

We can’t wait until next year to hear more about the amazing people and projects making a difference across our communities.

Inspirational Person of the Year, sponsored by Proactive

This award is for anyone who is a shining example to others. Perhaps they’ve achieved something against the odds, triumphed over some very tricky circumstances at a young age or who simply gives their all to whatever they turn their hand to.

Inspirational Person
The Good Neighbour Award, sponsored by Constant Security

This is for those everyday heroes whose small actions make a world of difference. Think help putting the bins out each week; a home-cooked meal delivered to the doorstep, or watering the plants when you’re away on holiday. It might be something as simple as a friendly face to have a chat with over a cuppa. Someone who is committed to the small acts of kindness which brighten peoples’ days and help make life that little bit easier.

Good Neighbour
The Community Champion, sponsored by Acorn Occupational Health

This award recognises people who go the extra mile to make a difference in their community. They might volunteer each week with a local group or fundraise tirelessly for a good cause. Whatever their contribution, they’re taking the time and the trouble to make an impact which benefits their neighbourhood and playing an active role in their local community for the good of the people who live there.

Community
Community Group of the Year, sponsored by the Irwell Valley Foundation

This award celebrates the wonderful work of charities, community groups and third sector organisations across our neighbourhoods of Greater Manchester. Perhaps they’ve been there to support people through the cost-of-living crisis or maybe they’re providing opportunities for social get-togethers to combat loneliness. From skills building to mental health support and everything in between, we want to recognise the vital role these groups play in our communities.

Community Group
Bloomin’ Marvellous Award, sponsored by Manchester Electrical

This award is for a green-fingered person or project doing great things to enhance their local environment. Maybe their hanging baskets brighten the street every spring; perhaps they’ve transformed a community garden or kick-started a successful allotment project. From litter-picking to recycling projects, we want to celebrate the eco champions doing great things to benefit our neighbourhoods now and in the future.
