Work starts on new affordable homes in Radcliffe

Building work begins next month on constructing new affordable homes in Radcliffe. We are developing the 25 semi-detached and detached houses on a two-acre plot with The Averill Group and the homes will be available for affordable rent and shared ownership. The development will be built on the land in the bottom right of the below aerial image.

We have appointed local construction company Watson Homes to build the new homes which are due to be completed in Spring 2023. The development will create more than 40 new jobs, including three apprenticeships.

The area where the homes will be built was once part of a former 24-acre Halls sweets factory site which closed in 2004.  Since then the Northern section of the site has been partly redeveloped with housing.

Bury is an important town for us, having recently completed two other affordable developments in the area. This latest development follows the successful delivery of 19 new affordable homes at Lowther Park, Prestwich, and five eco-homes on Siddall Street in Radcliffe.  We have committed to delivering a range of 1,250 new affordable homes across Greater Manchester to address local housing shortages over the next few years.

Andrea Swanwick, development director said: “There is an acute need for more affordable homes across Greater Manchester. “We’re delighted to be working in partnership to deliver these new homes for the local community. “And once completed it will provide much-needed high quality, low carbon affordable homes.”

Luke Averill, managing director of TAG, added: “We are extremely pleased to announce the joint venture with such a well-respected local housing association in Irwell Valley Homes, and to be delivering this 100 percent affordable and much-needed scheme.  “The homes will complement and grow what is already a thriving community; one that has easy access to public transport links and excellent local services.”

Luke, who grew up in Bury, added: “Along with our partners, which now includes Watson Homes, we are very confident of delivering a great scheme despite some of the challenges, including increasing build costs, that the pandemic has presented.”

Iain Watson, development manager, Watson Homes, said: “This work at Morris Street, Radcliffe, will further enhance the area, providing in-demand new quality homes using innovative modern construction methods.”
