Hear from your Neighbourhood Officer about what they’re up to in your area.

Welcome to your Haughton Green Community Newsletter.

The Neighbourhood Officers for your area are Ryan Heywood and Avery Santoro. They’ve each provided an update below.

Hi everyone, I’ve recently moved from one side of Haughton Green to the other and now cover the area around Lancaster Road, as well as homes in Droylsden and Dukinfield.

It was great carrying out my first Community Check-in of the year this January and I really appreciated speaking with several customers who came to raise various issues with me.

Although the weather was chilly this time around, it would be brilliant for customers to join me on my next check-in which will be completed in April. I will be heading out on the 10th April from the Oasis Centre at around 11:15am. You can also email me if you’d like to come along.

A recurring theme from the check-in was items being stored in both internal and external communal spaces. In line with our new zero-tolerance sterile policy which is designed to keep the buildings safe and hazard-free, these areas cannot be used for storage of any kind.

You may see that stickers have been put on any items that need to be removed. It’s important that if these items are yours, you move them as soon as possible. If items are still there when a follow-up inspection takes place, these items will be removed, and you may be recharged for this.

I look forward to seeing some of you in April, but if you'd like to meet
and discuss anything sooner, Avery and I also host a drop-in session at the Oasis Centre on the last Thursday of every month from 11:30am-2pm.

Hello, I’m Avery and I cover the rest of the Haughton Green estate, including the high rises. I’d like to thank residents for the warm welcome I’ve received as your new neighbourhood officer.

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and clean environment, I’ve recently completed my Community Check-ins across Haughton Green. Thank you to those who joined us and for all your efforts to keep our community thriving!

One of the main things I noticed was the need to work together to tackle litter in our shared spaces.

To help with this, I am organising a community litter picking day and would love for you to join us. It’s a great opportunity to come together as a community while helping to keep our estate clean and safe for everyone. We will provide all necessary supplies and will share the date and time soon.

We are also arranging for our specialist contractor to clear rubbish from within the fenced exclusion zone around the high-rises and our estates team continue to attend regularly across Haughton Green – picking litter, clearing fly-tipping, and skimming the communal bins.

If you witness any anti-social behaviour around waste management and fly-tipping, please report this to us so we can take action. The CCTV which we installed at the high-rise buildings last year is also helping us to identify those responsible to take tenancy action and steps to recharge them.

We have received several concerns from residents regarding the condition of the car parks at the high-rise blocks. In response, I will be conducting thorough inspections of the car parks in the coming weeks. We plan to lay tarmac in the area outside Fitzgerald Court which has become churned up with mud and will be investigating whether other areas also need this.

We will also be working to ensure that all vehicles parked on the car parks are road legal, with up-to-date MOT and tax information.  Any vehicles found without valid documentation will be reported to the local council and, if necessary, to the police to ensure that parking spaces are available for those who use their cars. We really appreciate your cooperation.

As we work together to improve our community, we want to remind everyone of the importance of managing waste respectfully and considerately. Please use bins correctly and recycle as much as possible. Proper waste disposal not only helps reduce litter but also minimises pest issues and contributes to a cleaner environment. Let’s all play a part in ensuring our estate is a pleasant place to live.

High rise render update

Thank you all for your patience while we explored the options available to us to deal with the failing render system at the high-rise buildings. We know it’s not been easy.

We’re now in a position to be able to remove the render from all three high-rise buildings.

We have organised two customer meetings, where we and our contractors will outline the plans, in detail, and answer any questions you have.

We are holding an online meeting specifically for high-rise customers on Tuesday 4th February 6.30pm – 7.30pm via Zoom and residents will have now received the meeting details.

We will then be holding a general meeting in person on Wednesday 5th February at the Oasis Community Resource Centre on Tatton Road, any time between 2pm and 7pm. Anyone from across the community is welcome to call by.

Recycling and bulky waste

As fly-tipping and waste management has been identified and raised as an issue in Haughton Green, we wanted to share a couple of useful resources to help you recycle where you can and use bins correctly – something which is especially important in communal bin stores.

Tameside Council have created a quick guide to help you identify what waste should go into each bin. You can find it here: https://www.tameside.gov.uk/whichbin/binswap

Remember if you need to dispose of bulky items, Tameside Council offer a heavy or bulky items collection service for up to 5 items. You can find out more here: https://www.tameside.gov.uk/bulkyrefuse

Did you know Tameside Council also has a bin app? You can check collection dates, report missed collections and access real time updates about the service!

Pest control

We have a pest management plan in place in Haughton Green – with a particular focus on the three high-rise buildings – run by our contractor, Clearlands. We are planning a review meeting with Clearlands to discuss results, and any further action needed.

We know it’s unpleasant to find dead vermin in the area so please report any incidences to us so that we can remove them. This does show that the pests are taking the bait and the programme is working.

We need you to help us with this by disposing of your waste responsibly. If you need any support with this, please contact Ryan or Avery.
